The rooms on the first floor have a great feel and amazing windows, but all the arts & crafts era wood and masonry have been doused in... white. The windows let SO much light into the rooms-- I don't know how anyone could have thought the place needed to be whiter. *sigh*
When I pulled back the white carpet, however, I found no shortage of colors.

Yep, the hardwood floors are painted mustard yellow and olive green!

And I'm not sure what this feature is supposed to be-- fringe at the edge of a painted-on rug??!!?

Unlike the neighborhood, the house is a grows a little less white with each passing day.
I think we had the same light fixture in our house when we moved in. It's no longer there.
Hey frosty! Lol. I'm curious what you have now in place of that fixture?
It is now somthing more like this...

After a closer look the fixture you have looks like it's in better shape than ours was.
Nice! I wish I had one like yours instead. I need to find some sort of architectural-salvage store here...
I've never seen your house-- what sort of rennovation/projects have you been doing ?
Our house is sort of an American foursquare/prairie box style house. Stucco siding ext. and craftsman-type woodwork inside. The inspector we had estimated that is was built in 1934, but we've found some papers that date the purchase of the lots to 1921.
We've mostly been cleaning. The people who lived there for the last 5 years didn't do very much. I'm pretty sure they did nothing. So we've had to pick up their slack.
Over the summer we did some insulation, electrical work and a lot of work out in the yard. We've just started cleaning up the wood trim inside. Luckily it hadn't been painted (just splattered on).
As far as salvage goes (not always architectural salvage)...you can sometims find good stuff at these places...I think there is one in Dayton.

If nothing else there is usaully good new stuff for small projects.
Your house sounds neat-- too bad it was neglected, but if it isn't too destroyed, the cleaning up should be satisfying. What neighborhood are you in?
Btw, you should give me or owen your email so we can get you set up with posting-access over at the allium!
That is a very fancy floor. Looks great stripped. Congrats on the house! Its beautiful.
